Bell Cottage is ideally located if you enjoy visiting beautiful gardens.  This map shows 13 fabulous gardens to visit in Cornwall and Devon, all within an hour’s drive from Callington.   Click on the red pins for a brief description,  and details of how close to Bell Cottage each garden is.  Driving times are checked with the RAC.

We particularly recommend:

Cotehele – just 10 minutes from Bell Cottage, Cotehele Cotehele is a Tudor house with fascinating collections of textiles, armour and furniture, surrounded by old orchards and with lovely ornamental gardens running down towards the river.    Cotehele has a coffee-shop, its own pub, and is home to the restored Tamar sailing barge ‘Shamrock’.  It’s a beautiful spot for a short stroll along the Tamar river, or if you feel more energetic, why not walk over to the pretty village of Calstock?

Rosemoor – About an hour away from Bell Cottage on the outskirts of Torrington, the Royal Horticultural Society’s gardens at Rosemoor is a 65-acre garden set within a quiet Devon valley.  Well worth driving a little further to spend the day there (it also has a lovely coffee shop in case you need refreshment half way round!)

The Eden Project About 50 minutes from Bell Cottage, the world-famous Eden Project is more than just a garden.  It boasts the world’s largest rainforest in captivity, stunning gardens and world-class sculptures.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan are a similar distance away and offer a fascinating trip into the history of Cornish gardens as this hidden treasure has been lovingly restored.
